The Startup Games combines both fun and philanthropy giving Austin start-up companies a chance to give back to the community. Teams spend a day competing for gold, silver and bronze medals in Beer Pong, Connect 4, Darts, Flip Cup, Foosball, Liar’s Dice, Mario Kart, Ping Pong, Dodgeball, Shuffle Board, Trivia and the annual Mystery Event.
This year, Breakthrough was honored to have been chosen as SpareFoot’s benefiting nonprofit!
“We chose Breakthrough Central Texas primarily because it’s focused on helping students here in our own backyard,” stated Brooke Noden, Startup Games Co-Captain and Manager of People Operations. “We also wanted to invest in our community’s future, and Breakthrough Central Texas gives students every opportunity to succeed through mentoring, enrichment programs, internships and much more.”
As a result of hard work and determination, SpareFoot took home 2nd place winning $10,000 to benefit Breakthrough! To date, SpareFoot has raised over $100,000 for nonprofit organizations from our winnings at the Startup Games.
HOW STARTUP GAMES WORKS
Step #1: Companies and communities enter their teams in our citywide office Olympics.
Step #2: Their registration fees create a pool of charitable donations.
Step #3: Each team selects a partner nonprofit.
Step #4: On game day, teams battle it out in fun events like dodgeball, ping pong & Mario Kart.
Step #5: The better each team does, the more money they win for their favorite nonprofit.
Step #6: Every charity gets a donation no matter what!
