BREAKTHROUGH BEHIND THE SCENES

Breakthrough Behind the Scenes is a quarterly series of conversations, hosted at our East Austin headquarters, where we pull back the curtain on our mission, featuring a different topic each quarter. You will learn about our innovative, long-term approach to creating first-generation college graduates, meet alumni and program leadership, and hear about ways to make a difference for our Breakthrough students and community.

MAY BEHIND THE SCENES

Quarterly Topic: This quarter, we’re focusing on advising, mental health, and student support during Mental Health Awareness Month. ENGAGE WITH OUR STUDENTS

HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Thursday, June 13, 11:30-1:30 p.m. at Del Valle (50 volunteers needed)
Wednesday, July 3, 11:30-1:30 p.m. at UT Austin (50 volunteers needed)
Thursday, July 25, 11:30–1:30 p.m. at Manor (waitlist)

The Leadership Institute will help our 10th grade students develop life skills that are essential to their success in college and beyond. This year, students will take on the role of college recruiters and give their best pitch to persuade prospective students (community volunteers) to attend their campus. Students will demonstrate their college knowledge, leadership, and communication skills covered over our two-week program in a concise, refined presentation to adult volunteers and partners. Volunteers will have the opportunity to share meaningful feedback and vote for their top pitches.
