Dear Breakthrough Community,
We write to you with heavy hearts, recognizing the pain, fear, and outrage in our community right now. We condemn the racist police brutality that has caused the murders of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Mike Ramos, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others before them. We know many in our Breakthrough community are struggling right now, particularly our Black and African American community members, with the ongoing display of racism and brutality in Austin and throughout the country, and we recognize that racial injustice in America has a long and ugly history.
We want to state unequivocally that Breakthrough Central Texas stands in support of Black lives and alongside the communities, agencies, and coalitions demanding an end to racist police brutality.
For those who are struggling, please know you are valued, seen, heard, and loved at Breakthrough. Breakthrough strives to be a community where all students, families, and staff members can be their full, authentic selves, and we know that many of us—particularly our Black students, families, friends, supporters, and colleagues—are currently feeling angry, hurt, afraid, and exhausted. We are here to listen, to support you, and to take action alongside you.
We recognize that denouncing this ongoing violence is not enough. Rather, we must continue the necessary work to make Breakthrough and our community a better place for our Black students, families and staff members.
We are committed to taking a stance in response to this injustice, including using our voice on social media and joining in with other coalitions who are fighting for justice. As an organization, Breakthrough has contributed to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, one of many organizations around the country fighting for racial justice through advocacy, education, and organizing.

We are grateful for our amazing community of 2,000+ students and their families, as well as our volunteers, donors, staff members and trustees.
