Experience Breakthrough: Volunteer at one of our nine summer programs

Summer is an exciting time for Breakthrough, as hundreds of middle school, high school and college students kick off their summer learning with us. We would love for you to share in their experience and see our programs in action!

As the culmination of Breakthrough’s summer program, students at each grade level demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed by participating in Presentations of Learning. Community volunteers are asked to provide essential feedback on student presentations.

ENGAGE WITH OUR STUDENTS

MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAM

Wednesday, July 25, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Dailey Middle School (Del Valle ISD) (19 volunteers needed)
Thursday, July 26, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Decker Middle School (19 volunteers needed)
Friday, July 27, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, St. Andrew’s Upper School (3 volunteers needed)
Friday, July 27, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, UT Austin

During the summer, students in grades 6-9 work on in-depth academic projects, and prepare brief presentations for community members. This is a valuable opportunity for students to practice their communication skills and put their knowledge to the test.

12th GRADE COLLEGE APPLICATION INSTITUTE

Friday, July 27, 12:00-2:00 PM, Huston – Tillotson (3 volunteers needed)

The College Application Institute helps our 12th graders prepare college applications, essays, and resumes, in addition to familiarizing themselves with the financial aid process.  At the end of the program, students participate in “mock college interviews” with community members to practice their professional communication skills, vocalize their educational aspirations, and get to know their dream institutions. We are specifically recruiting counselors, college admission or university personnel, scholarship program representatives, college application coaches or others with similar experience.

11th GRADE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (AISD)

Tuesday, July 31, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Atlassian  (8 volunteers needed)

11th grade students spend their summers branching out with activities like volunteer projects, internships and camps that will build their college resumes. At the end of the summer, students will present their experiences, what they learned, and how it will help them on their journey to college, to a panel that will provide feedback on their presentation skills.

FUTURE FOCUS COLLEGE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Friday, August 10, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, SolarWinds

Future Focus is a collaborative internship program for Breakthrough and KIPP Collegiate high school graduates to gain invaluable professional experience through paid internships at businesses in the Austin area. At the conclusion of these internships, students will give presentations on what the experience taught them to a panel of volunteers.
