We had a record number Breakthrough middle school, high school and college students spend their summer with us!

41,850 hours of summer instruction

1,650 Breakthrough Students

went through the Breakthrough Summer Experience

161 Summer Teaching Fellows/AmeriCorps Members

at four distinct sites

800 middle school students

in Austin, Manor and Del Valle engaged in our 6-week academically intensive summer program

400 high school students

attended Breakthrough’s Leadership, Professional Experience and Application Institutes

93 recent high school graduates

prepared for their path to college in the fall, having 324 distinct college acceptance letters to 68 colleges & universities

Close to 250 college students

continued their journey to becoming first-generation college graduates

Over 400 volunteers

came out to Experience Breakthrough this summer

Meet Marquise, 2018 Summer AmeriCorps Teaching Fellow

I realized that I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for Breakthrough. I considered the total impact the program had on my life. There had to be something I can do to show my appreciation and give back my time to this wonderful organization. Why wouldn’t I be a Breakthrough teacher? I mean it was perfect, I had a chance to inspire the next generation while also gaining experience for my future career.

Meet Niah,  Breakthrough 6th Grader

My goal in life is to be a super successful geologist. So far I have done a great job on that path to achieving that goal. I have graduated from 5th grade, and I got all As on my report  card. I also won the Excellence Award in P.E., music and technology, and was a member of the National Elementary Honor Society at Gilbert Elementary. Next year I hope to join the National Junior Honor Society at Dailey!
